During this traditional style workshop you will make a pair of silver rings for you to take home and treasure.
Make different rings for a contrasting stack or gift one to a loved one, the choice is yours!
Approximate time: 4-4.5hours (including a break for tea)
After the necessary chats about health and safety, Maria will introduce you to all of the tools you will be using followed by demonstrations on how to use them.
Over the course of the workshop you will learn the following skills;
Measuring working out the ring size required and how to calculate the length of silver needed.
Cutting the silver with a jewellers piercing saw.
Annealing with a gas torch, allowing you to manipulate the metal and add texture.
Forming the silver into a round shape.
Filing the ends and edges.
Soldering to form a continuous ring.
Polishing using emery papers and polishing compounds to achieve the desired finish.
Optional skills – Hammering to create surface textures.

These workshops have been designed with complete beginners to jewellery making in mind.
Maria will give a full demonstration on how the piece is made.
When the time comes for you to start, each process can be demonstrated again step by step and you will get assistance throughout as required.
The shop space is small and intimate and you will have your own jewellers bench to use for the duration of the class, hopefully giving you an insight into how it feels to work at a traditional jewellers bench.
We don’t mix groups!
So you can receive quality tuition your booking is exclusively for your group of 2-3* people.
*Priced per person.
Due to insurance purposes, attendee’s must be strictly aged 16 or over.
Price includes recycled sterling silver to make two rings up to 3mm in width
Additional silver can be purchased on the day if required.
The workshops are held at the shop/ workshop – Unit 8 Melbourne Hall Courtyard, Melbourne, Derby DE73 8EN.
Ground floor shop location - let us know if you have any accessibility requirements and we will do our best to assist.
Please bring your eye glasses if you wear them, closed toe shoes or boots and wear comfortable clothing you don't mind getting a little dusty.

Teatime- coinciding with the popular street food evenings in the courtyard you may choose to dine at a choice of eateries including The Brewhouse, or feel free to bring a picnic tea.
